Below you'll find some specifics – and guideline prices – for the services mentioned above.
A second pair of eyes
This is my one-to-one feedback service for your poetry (up to 150 lines) or short story (up to 2,000 words).
You will receive feedback and thoughts for development on your work.
Face-to-face one-to-ones of up to one hour in length can be arranged in London or via Skype, or you can request the feedback as a written comment (at least 500 words long).
The turnaround time is one week from receipt of the work and payment, though if your preference is to arrange a face-to-face or Skype meeting this may take longer to organise.
As a guide the price is £75, with the option to add a thorough proofread for an additional fee.
I’ve written a blog post about one-to-ones I ran with writers at Hastings Library, which you might want to take a look at.
Proofreading and editorial services
You’ll send me a Word document of your short story or an extract of a longer piece of writing. We’ll agree a timescale and by the end of it (after receipt of payment) I’ll return a version of the document which has been thoroughly proofread. Typographical and grammatical errors will be rectified, formatting issues fixed, and queries commented. Changes to the document will be tracked in Microsoft Word.
As a guide:
Up to 2,000 words – £75
2,001 to 4,000 words – £125
4,001 to 6,000 words – £175
6,001 to 8,000 words – £225
For longer projects, please contact me with details for an accurate quote.
Creative writing workshops
I’ve experience delivering creative writing workshops to all ages, including participants as young as 6, GCSE English students and dementia sufferers.
Work in schools can be tailored to fit in with the curriculum or a particular project if required.
As a guide, my rate for one day is £300 and a half-day is £220. Preparation time, travel costs and, if necessary, accommodation will also need to be considered. The Society of Authors’ website has some useful information for organisations planning events with writers, and its on these resources these fees are based.
Please contact me to discuss your project regardless of your budget – reduced rates may be available for charities or similar organisations.
Commissions and residencies
As a writer-in-residence I can offer longer term projects. Residencies should include a brief for a creative response to a theme or place, and can also include delivering workshops, readings or events. Please contact me if you are interested in hosting a writer-in-residence.
