Selected to take part in The Future is Back

I'm pleased to have been accepted to join The Future is Back, a programme of workshops for a group of ten LGBTQ+ writers led by author Olumide Popoola. Our first session is today, and I'm looking forward to meeting the group and getting to work.

"The quality of submissions was extremely high," the website says, "demonstrating a rich variety of talent across London." The programme of work follows in the footsteps a similar scheme that ran last year, Futures in the Making.

I applied this year because The Future is Back is a rare opportunity to explore my place in the LGBTQ+ community and how that interacts with my identity as a writer. I haven't previously brought the two together, and I'm not sure if that's something I should feel concerned about or not. It's certainly something I'd like to look at, particularly as I've started working on fiction projects with LGBTQ+ characters. I feel at home writing these stories – something has clicked for me, and so this scheme comes at just the right time for me.
