I was thrilled to have the opportunity to record some of my learnings as writer in residence at Hastings Library on the Libraries Taskforce blog.

The Libraries Taskforce explores what people want from libraries in the 21st century. Its priorities include promoting libraries and providing insight to support support sustainable library services. It reports to government ministers via the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Local Government Association (LGA).

The opportunity to write the blog post came about because the project my residency was associated with was funded through the DCMS/Libraries Taskforce ‘Libraries: Opportunities for Everyone’ fund (which was administered by Arts Council England).

The post is aimed at staff in libraries or similar organisations who might be considering hosting a writer in residence. It talks about reasons for having a writer in residence, the practicalities of organising a residency, different types of residency, budgeting and the potential impact on participants.
